(Jan. 27, 2012) For the third Friday Phone Briefing of the 2012 legislative session, Jocelyn McCabe, AWB vice president of Communications, is joined by Gary Chandler, AWB vice president of Government Affairs, Kris Tefft, AWB general counsel and government affairs director, and Don Brunell, AWB president.

Chandler discusses the lack of progress made by the legislature on a balanced budget. He also discusses the proposed transportation package.

Tefft discusses proposed paid sick leave, workplace bullying and other employer-employee related legislation.

Finally, Brunell joins us to discuss a new report released by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce comparing employment laws from all 50 states. It rates Washington "poor" due to a number of factors including numerous employer mandates and high workers compensation and unemployment insurance costs.

(Jan. 13, 2012) For the first Friday Phone Briefing of the 2012 legislative session, Jocelyn McCabe, AWB vice president of communications, is joined by a panel of business policy leaders to discuss the variety of issues Washington state faces this legislative session.

 Steve Mullin, president of the Washington Roundtable, discusses the recently released report titled 'Benchmarks for a Better Washington" -- a look at business competitiveness in relation to the state budget. Then we are joined by Richard Davis, president of the Washington Research Council, who discusses the impact of the recent Washington state Supreme Court ruling concerning education funding and its potential impact on the state budget. Finally, we are also joined by AWB's Gary Chandler, vice president of government affairs, who discusses the budget, transportation, tax simplification, environmental legislation and changes to Initiative 937.
